My Journey of Overcoming and Rebuilding After Breast Cancer
Discovering and Diagnosing Breast Cancer
Hello! I’m Amanda Góes, a nurse, professor, and breast cancer survivor. In 2018, at 33 years old, during a routine exam, I received the news that would change my life: invasive ductal carcinoma — a type of breast cancer.
At that moment, fear and uncertainty filled my mind, but the will to live spoke louder. Early diagnosis was essential, and I emphasize the importance of breast self-examination and regular preventive checkups.
Facing Treatment with Courage and Hope
After the diagnosis, my oncologist defined the treatment plan: immediate surgery, radiotherapy, and hormonal blockade for five years. Chemotherapy was not necessary due to the tumor type and subtype.
The surgery left a significant scar but also taught me about resilience and self-love. During daily radiotherapy sessions, I kept a positive attitude — believing that each treatment day was a daily dose of healing.
The effects of tamoxifen were challenging, but nothing compared to the joy of finishing the treatment in 2023, ready for a new phase of life.
Breast Reconstruction with Silimed: A New Beginning Full of Confidence
During my journey, I discovered the Silimed Mastology Project, a reference in breast reconstruction and high-quality breast implants.
In July of this year, I underwent breast reconstruction surgery. My right breast received a 460ml implant and the left one a 420ml implant, balancing the shape and restoring my self-esteem and confidence.
Life After Cancer: Faith, Gratitude, and Purpose
Today, seven years after my diagnosis, I feel like a new woman. I returned to the classroom as a university nursing professor and discovered my true mission: to inspire and educate other women about breast cancer, reconstruction, and self-care.
I learned that life after cancer is full of meaning. I turned pain into purpose, and today I share my story through lectures and awareness campaigns.
If fear once dominated, today faith and gratitude are at the heart of my life.
Message of Hope: This Too Shall Pass!
If you are going through cancer treatment, take a deep breath: it will pass! Breast cancer is not a death sentence — it’s an opportunity for a new beginning.
With faith, medical support, and love, it’s possible to overcome, rebuild, and smile again.
